Macrocarpa Lego Man
I have a mate who is mad on Lego and his wife asked me to make something Lego for his birthday.
I made 2 of these which one went to him and I kept the other one. It sits proudly on the shelf in my lounge.
The Lego Man stands about 300mm (1 foot) tall and is made out of Macrocarpa (Cupressus Macrocarpa) which I consider a very undervalued timber for woodworking.
Spalted Tawa Vases
Spalting is a fungus that gets into the timber when the tree has been sitting for a while. There's a window between solid timber and rotten timber where spalting occurs.
I got some firewood off Facebook once I though I saw spalting in the photos. When I put the chainsaw through it there it was.
These vases were a bit of a play around with shaping and random design to create a set of three completely different shapes brought together through the grain.
Going loopy
Cameron Porter is CammiesGarage on Instagram makes weird and wonderful wooden art. He inspired this piece as it fits my "I wonder if I can" ethos. And it turns out I can.
This is created from one disc of Walnut turned into three individual rings that are split in half and reassembled as it shows in the picture.
This one was fun. Challenging but fun.
Herb Farm Fairy Village
Lynn Kirkland from Herb World wanted a fairy village in The Herb Farm gardens so I linked between the trees little walkways, doors and windows for the kids to wonder over.
It's so great watching their little eyes light up when they discover this wonderland.
Herb World Elven Village
Lynn Kirkland is a writer and promoter of positivity and nature. She has written multiple books on her Herb World characters.
She asked if I would build some Elven huts on the Herb Farm garden walk. That was right up my alley. We ended up with the handyman, the library, the musician and the apothecary.
This, similar to the Fairy Village was a great little project and seeing the kids faces when they come across this sight is a real joy.
